Mattahunt Recycling to Protect the Earth

The Mattahunt SCORES team promoted recycling in their school with these great posters.

They found superheros and earth images the most compelling ways to promote recycling.

A little water didn't bother Recycle Man
The Earth is Worth Keeping Around

The students even included important information about what can go into school recycling bins:

Student Reflection:

What does my community mean to me?
It means to have family, neighbors and friends.
What I like about my community is the park, school programs, stores and other things.
What I don't like about my community is the bad neighbors, robbers and trash in the streets.

Nice job Mattahunt Team!

Spotlight on OGPS

The Orchard Gardens' Lions quilt is finished!  The project includes 25 student designed squares made from felt.  It will be donated to the children's ward of a hospital near the school.

Great job OGPS!

From planning stage

To final product

The team made a poster to display at Jamboree.  The poster has quotes from team members:

"We designed our quilt to inspire and cheer up the kids"

Intricate designs

"A quilt will help children in the hospital because when they see it they will feel safe and not scared if they're getting surgery."

wonderful details

"I like Lakatha's design because it says stay strong and it's very inspiring.  It's a heart and a muscle on it."

"My favorite square is Erica's because if a little kid likes to play princess or prince they might imagine that they are in a castle"

And of course, the OGPS Lions included a soccer ball or two!

Celebrating Jamboree! Pie in the face fun~

America SCORES celebrated our14th Annual Jamboree on June 7th.  The weather cooperated for long enough to to have a great tournament, arts and crafts sessions, some great food and a chance for students to see what all the other teams did for their service project.

Awards were given to students for Teamwork, Leadership, Commitment and Dedication, called the "3 Year Awards".

Students voted for which SCORES Member should get the traditional "Pie in the Face".  They earned tickets by discussing their service project and chose who would get the whipped cream pie.

This year the unlucky winner was Freya Hoffman-Terry.

Before

After!
Surprisingly tasty

Unfortunately the rain made us rush the award ceremony and many students didn't get to see the pie in the face ritual.  We are posting the video here:

Thanks to everyone who made this day possible.

Check back in for more service highlights.
