Hennigan Team Brainstorms How to Help Their Community

The James W Hennigan team has a lot of ideas for their community service project.  They are trying to narrow their topics and pick one that they can complete this spring.

Ammal spoke about where the team is in the planning process:

"Barrells for Hunger" New Theme for Hennigan Team

Students will hold a food drive for all in the community to bring can and boxed food items for those in need.

Mildred Ave Students Focus on Fitness

The Mildred Ave America SCORES team is taking up Mayor Menino's million pound challenge.  They will study health and fitness and are planning a health focused fundraiser.











Students learned national obesity statistics.








Students discussed national fitness and activity levels.














They brainstormed ways in which they are active everyday (climbing stairs, walking to school) and discussed times when they are not active (screen time, reading, sleeping, hanging out).

Jackson Mann School Brainstorming Project Ideas

The Jackson Mann School spent a practice presenting the 4 most popular service ideas to the entire group.

Students discussed the problem, why it mattered and how it could be solved.  Then they voted.

John F Kennedy Students Write Poems for Cancer Patients

John F Kennedy students wrote poems to send to cancer patients at Children's Hospital.

Grew Project to Focus on Diabetes and Cerebral Palsy

The Henry Grew School is learning about, raising awareness and raising money for fellow students with diabetes and cerebral palsy.

Girls Team Making Posters Advertising Hat Day
They plan on holding a walk-a-thon to raise money and holding "hat day".  Students will pay $2 to wear a crazy hat for the day.  They will also learn about the importance of nutrition and stretching for all students but particularly those with diabetes or cerebral palsy.
